(Hong Kong, 8 August 2002) Under the current economic climate, it's easy to focus on one's own difficulties and forget about the plight of others. ESDlife (esdlife.com), the major website in the Government's "Electronic Service Delivery" scheme, is aiming to help change that and support local charities at the same time.
ESDlife has joined hands with ten major charities - The Community Chest, Po Leung Kuk, Oxfam, Yai Oi Tong, Pok Oi Hospital, Lok Sin Tong, Yan Chai Hospital , the Tung Wah Group, Red Cross and World Vision - to launch the "Pass on Your Love and Care" campaign. The campaign encourages the public to bring about positive change to those in need. It does this in two ways: by using selected ESDlife services, the public can make a donation to one of the charities - without using a cent of their own money; or by actively volunteering to help out.
Make a donation without dipping into your pocket
The level of donations received by charities has been falling in recent times due to the economic downturn. But while people may not have money to spare for a donation, taking advantage of the convenience and ease-of-use of ESDlife now allows them to show that they still care. For ESDlife will donate an amount of money for each transaction of a range of public services* made through its website**. The donations will be used to organise charity programmes and social services.
Also participate actively in voluntary services
Participating in voluntary service can be particularly rewarding at a personal level. And anyone can make use of the ESDlife website to register as a volunteer under the Social Services Department. Or they can catch up on the latest volunteer recruitment news from various social service groups by reading the "Volunteer Bulletin Board" on charity.esdlife.com. They may then choose a service in which they are interested and a time that is convenient for them to volunteer.
Aimed at increasing society's awareness of those in need, charity.esdlife.com also features articles that show we can all make a difference.
