News release
London - 16 March 2005
Pop sensation Natasha Bedingfield adds to her music credentials by winning the first ever award for music video downloads to mobile phones, after emerging as the most watched British artist on 3's Video Jukebox. The award, created by rock'n'roll designer Johnny Rocket, is the first in a series that 3 will present to artists to recognise the success of their videos on 3.
The award has been introduced following 3's recent announcement that 10 million videos have been watched on the network since the launch of the Video Jukebox service in August last year. It is the first award to celebrate MP4 and is being touted as the equivalent of the gold disc for mobile music video.
Natasha was presented with the award as she rehearsed for her intimate gig at the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) this evening (March 15th). Natasha's music videos were downloaded by thousands of 3 customers and fought off stiff competition from the likes of Robbie Williams and Dizzee Rascal.
Natasha Bedingfield commented: "I am delighted to receive this award as recognition of all the hard work that goes into making my music videos. 3's video jukebox is a great new way for my fans to watch my videos on the move."
Graeme Oxby, Marketing Director at 3 said, "3 is delighted to present Natasha with this award as the most downloaded music video artist over a mobile network. 3 is the only network that provides full-length music video's and continues to deliver innovative services to entertain our customers on the move."
Celebrity jeweller Johnny Rocket was delighted to be asked to create the 3 award for Natasha. Johnny is no stranger to the music world, and has created stunning jewellery pieces for Kylie Minogue, Jodie Kidd, Macy Gray, Fatboy Slim and Boy George, to name but a few. "I want the award to be a contemporary, edgy design that fits perfectly with 3's music proposition, it has a Henry Moore-esque with a hint of steel guitar feel about it."
3 pioneered video on mobile with the launch of its Video Jukebox service in August 2004. The success of this service speaks for itself with over 10 million music videos being downloaded over 6 months. Music Videos are priced at £1.50 and are available to stream (i.e. play once) or download to the handset.
