PARKnSHOP joins hands with Food Angel
to pioneer food donation programme

[Hong Kong.1 Aug 2012] PARKnSHOP is set to become the pioneer among local supermarket chains to have officially launched a food donation programme to help the needy, with PARKnSHOP announcing today that a programme that it started in early July with Food Angel has now been expanded to more stores.

PARKnSHOP started its co-operation with Food Angel, a food recovery programme under non-profit group Bo Charity Foundation, early last month at the Island Resort Superstore in Siu Sai Wan. The co-operation saw PARKnSHOP donate edible vegetables, fruits and loose bakery and Food Angel prepare these unsold items into meal boxes and give away to people in need. To tie in with the opening of Food Angel's central kitchen in Chai Wan, PARKnSHOP has decided to extend the programme to more stores in the proximity of the central kitchen in the hope of helping more people.

At PARKnSHOP, food safety is always its primary concern. PARKnSHOP partners with Food Angel as the latter shares the same mission to ensure that the beneficiaries could enjoy fresh and safe food. Food Angel will be responsible for the food safety, and it will closely monitor and regularly and professionally test its transport and cooking process. PARKnSHOP will continue to work closely with Food Angel and monitor the donation progress of each store.

Gigi Tung, Founder and Chairperson of Bo Charity Foundation, said, "We would like to thank PARKnSHOP wholeheartedly for responding to our call by donating food to Food Angel, the food recovery programme under the foundation. This meaningful act helps reminding the public of treasuring food and has also served as a role model, which encourages other enterprises to reduce food waste from source and participate in food donation programmes."

At the same time, PARKnSHOP will continue its internal procedures to reduce food waste at source including more accurate demand forecasts and end of day clearance. PARKnSHOP will also follow government's further guidelines to explore other practical and safe ways of food waste management.
