(Hong Kong, 25 June 2014) In Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, the Autobots fiercely guarded humanity's future and faith even in the face of betrayal and unfair persecution. Mark Wahlberg, the protagonist of the film, and his eponymous charity - the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation - joined hands with the Li Ka Shing Foundation to invite over 300 youngsters to a premiere screening of the highly anticipated 3D film. In a special pre-recorded message, Mark Wahlberg encouraged Hong Kong youngsters to work hard and shoot for the stars.
"I want to thank Mr Li Ka-shing and his Foundation for all that he is doing for education. And I want you guys to know that there isn't anything that you can't do, whether you want to be the next Mr Li Ka-shing in business or you want to be like me starring in Transformers. Get an education. There isn't anything you can't do."
Overcoming his troubled youth, Mr Wahlberg turned a new leaf and more, rising to success and fame as one of Hollywood's leading actors and producers. He established The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation to remove barriers that prevent inner city youth from succeeding, providing them the chance, financial and community support to make dreams a reality. Last year, at the humble age of 42, Mr Wahlberg returned to his high school to attain his diploma, demonstrating his fervent belief in "second chances".
Last October, while in the city shooting Transformers 4, Mr Wahlberg met with Mr Li to discuss their common commitments to education in their philanthropic causes. In conjunction with the release of Transformers 4, the Foundations hope to work together in a joint feature screening for local youngsters, motivating them to never give up.
The Foundations thank Po Leung Kuk, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and SKH St Christopher's Home for inviting near 300 youngsters to the viewing. For some, the experience of viewing a 3D film for the first time will be memorable and enthralling one.
