Hutchison Whampoa appoints directors to its board

HONG KONG - Hutchison Whampoa Limited ("HWL") has today announced the appointment of Mr Or Ching-fai, Raymond and Mr Lai Kai-ming, Dominic to its Board with effect from 1 February 2000.

Mr Raymond Or is a General Manager of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited ("HSBC"). His appointment to the HWL Board follows the departure of Mr Christopher Langley who's retiring from HSBC. The Board of Directors of HWL would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Langley for his many contributions to the Company during his tenure.

Mr Dominic Lai joined HWL's retail division AS Watson & Co Limited in 1994 as Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director. He was later in 1998 appointed Group Managing Director of Harbour Plaza Hotel Management (International) Limited, HWL's hotel investment, management and operation division. With this new appointment, Mr Lai will become an Executive Director of HWL, reporting to the Company's Group Managing Director Mr Canning Fok.
