The Port of Felixstowe has provided a major boost to the development of a new classroom at Trimley St Martin Primary School. A donation of 4,000 has enabled the school to meet its fundraising target for the construction of a new Information and Communication Technology room.
The new classroom will be equipped with 11 networked PCs each with Internet facilities. To date the computers and associated hardware have been housed in cramped conditions in the school library. The new classroom will provide more spacious conditions in which children can be taught.
Commenting on the donation Graham Pearson, the school's Headmaster, said:
"We are very grateful to the Port for this donation. It is increasingly important that children are taught ICT skills from a young age to prepare them for the world we live in. This new classroom will provide a valuable addition to the facilities that our children deserve."
Speaking at the presentation of the donation, Paul Davey, Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited Corporate Affairs Manager, added:
"The Port of Felixstowe is highly dependent upon computer technology. It is appropriate therefore that this donation is being used to improve ICT facilities."
