Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Limited (HTAL) advises that with effect from 19 September 2001, Mr Barry Roberts-Thomson has resigned his role as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Roberts-Thomson will remain on the Board and has been appointed Deputy Chairman. Mr. Kevin Russell, HTAL's current Chief Operating Officer, will take over as Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Russell has held the role of Chief Operating Officer of HTAL since January this year. Prior to this, he held several senior positions in Hutchison Whampoa's international telecommunications operations, most recently as Chief Financial Officer of Hutchison Whampoa's associate company in Israel, Partner Communications.
In his capacity as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Roberts-Thomson will continue to represent HTAL in Government relations.
Mr Dennis Lui, Deputy Chairman since May this year, will take on an expanded role as Executive Deputy Chairman. He will continue as Hutchison Whampoa Limited's representative to direct HTAL, drawing upon his own experience and that of Hutchison Whampoa.
In announcing these changes, Mr. Canning Fok, Chairman of HTAL, said "these changes strengthen and streamline the management team overall. Our focus remains on growing our Orange CDMA business in Sydney and Melbourne and developing our 3G business for launch next year. Hutchison Whampoa's commitment to HTAL remains firm."
