Cfn-Cnbc uses 3's Umts for live reports

For the first time in the world, the "live" connection between correspondents and the Class Editori TV studio ( by satellite) happens through 3's UMTS videophone.

Milan, April 14th 2004 - The cooperation between 3, the Mobile Video Company of the Hutchison Whampoa Group, and Cfn/Cnbc, the global digital television in Italian that deals with economics and financial topics of Class Editori, started a few days ago. It allows Cfn/Cnbc's correspondents to report live by using 3's UMTS videophone.

The technological solution conceived by Cfn/Cnbc and 3 efficiently integrates the traditional instruments of video journalism with the 3rd generation of video mobile communication. Through the connection with the TV studio, journalists can report from the places where boards of directors, press conferences and meetings of the most important economic and financial companies of the Italian market take place

The first 3 report by direct video on the videophone by Cfn/Cnbc with the 3 videophone (on March 24th), broadcasted the presentation of Mediaset's 2003 results, the meeting between Seat management and financial analysts and the summit on the crisis of Italian football held in Milan on March 29th, 2004.

From a technological point of view, the solution set up by 3 and Cfn/Cnbc has its strength in its simplicity: this makes it easily available for all the world of video-based media, including portals.

Vincenzo Novari, CEO of 3: "This cooperation is the first example of a new way of interaction between mobile communications and media, where the videophone plays a central role in supplying images to the media industry."

Paolo Panerai, Class Editori's director and publisher, declared: "Class Editori once shows its pioneer strategy in the use of all the technologies available for the broadcast of content: press, Internet, TV and digital radio, satellite and mobile telephony. Thanks to 3's videophone, our correspondents will be even more "on the news" matching the speed of response to the expectations of the spectators. Also, from an industrial point of view, the possibility to rationalize production costs and increase the "coverage" of main economical and financial events represents a very attractive starting point."

3 - Is the commercial brand of H3G, the mobile video company in the Italian market. After having won the UMTS license in Italy in November 2000, with the offer of 3,25 billion euros, 3 launched its service at the beginning of March 2003 and aimed for the leadership of the third generation mobile market. Among its shareholders are prominent leaders in Italy and the world, from the sectors of telecommunications, the Internet and new media, publishing and finance. Hutchison Whampoa Limited is the primary shareholder 88,67% of the authorized capital. The other shareholders include CIR, S. Paolo Imi, BMI, RCS Mediagroup, Gemina and Tiscali.
