Under the 2002 Scheme, the Board shall, subject to and in accordance with the provisions of the 2002 Scheme and the Listing Rules, grant share options to any eligible participant to subscribe for Shares for the purpose of providing incentives or rewards to him/her for contribution to the Group. The 2002 Scheme remained in force for a period of ten years from the date of its adoption and expired on 6 June 2012. The Shareholders at the annual general meeting held on 25 May 2012 approved the termination of the 2002 Scheme and adoption of the 2012 Scheme which serves the same purpose as the 2002 Scheme. The 2012 Scheme will remain in force for a period of ten years from 29 May 2012, the date of obtaining the approval of the listing and permission to deal in the Shares falling to be allotted and issued pursuant to the exercise of any options granted under the 2012 Scheme. During the year, no options were granted, exercised, cancelled and lapsed under the 2012 Scheme while 4,000,000 share options lapsed under the 2002 Scheme. CONTINGENT LIABILITIES AND PLEDGE OF ASSETS The Group had no contingent liabilities at 31 December 2019. As at 31 December 2019, the carrying amounts of assets pledged as security for bills payable and bank borrowings are: (i) leasehold land and buildings: HK$189,388,000; (ii) pledged bank deposits: HK$53,921,000; and (iii) land use rights: HK$59,951,000.
