The wonderful world of Cirque du Soleil is being brought back to Hong Kong by Swire Properties to greet the Millennium. Beneath a brand new big top, the Chapiteau, erected in Tamar, Admiralty, across from Pacific Place, the 53 performers of this novel, ebullient circus will present their latest production, SaltimbancoTM, beginning on 25 January, 2000.
Taking its name from the Italian word for "street performer," a Worldwide cast will offer two and half hours of dazzling dancing, mime, acrobatics and feats upon the trapeze which have enchanted audiences over three continents.
The show is new, although the Cirque is no stranger to Hong Kong. Swire Properties, a keen supporter in the arts, first sponsored the Cirque's original show, Alegrķa, in 1996. Audiences were able for the first time to savour the breath-taking high wire acts, the clowning, dancing and acrobatics which had already won worldwide acclaim.
Mr Keith Kerr, Managing Director of Swire Properties, stressed the shared goal of Swire Properties and Cirque du Soleil in striving for excellence, building excitement and meeting the highest expectations of the public.
"In welcoming the new Millennium," he said: "we are delighted to have the opportunity to present Saltimbanco for the enjoyment of our Hong Kong community."
Coinciding with the performances of Saltimbanco, Swire Properties will organise a series of activities including the issue of a limited edition "Millennium Card". Anyone who purchases a pair of Saltimbanco tickets at the Swire Properties shopping malls will receive a Millennium card which offer a host of exclusive benefits and privileges when shopping at selected stores in Cityplaza, Festival Walk and Pacific Place.
Tickets for Saltimbanco will be on sale to the public at these three shopping malls from 8 October, 1999.
