Hong Kong, 2 February 2000 - Dairy Farm today announced the following appointments. Howard Mowlem is appointed Finance Director, North Asia effective 24 January 2000. Mr Mowlem replaces Andrew Shepherd who leaves in February this year to assume a senior management position outside the Group. Prior to the appointment, Mr Mowlem was General Manager, Finance and Administration for Coles Supermarkets, with an operation of over 400 stores. Mr Mowlem has 13 years of experience in various senior financial positions in Coles Myer Ltd, the largest retail organisation in Australia. Mr Mowlem holds an MBA degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Economics degree from Monash University in Australia. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Certified Practising Accountants in Australia. Jeff Shaw is appointed CEO of Wellcome, Hong Kong with effect from 24 January 2000. Prior to the appointment, Mr Shaw was COO of Hero, Indonesia's largest supermarket chain and a Dairy Farm joint venture business. Mr Shaw has more than 20 years of experience in the retail business operating in South Africa, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia. He joined Dairy Farm International in 1990 as Operations Director for Wellcome, Hong Kong and has since then served a number of senior management roles within the Dairy Farm Group. In his new role, Mr Shaw will lead the Wellcome team to increase its market share, maintain its leadership, and drive the implementation of the strategic programme for store renewal and development in Hong Kong. Ian McClellan, who previously assumed the role of Country Manager of Singapore, replaces Mr Shaw as COO of Hero. Caroline Mak has been named CEO of Mannings with responsibility for continuing the expansion and conversion of Mannings into health and beauty format stores offering high-quality services and products at a competitive price. Ms Mak has most recently been Managing Director of IKEA, Hong Kong and Taiwan. During this time, Ms Mak has built a significant brand tripling IKEA retail sales in the process. Prior to IKEA, she has gained extensive experience in the health and beauty segment while working for L'Oreal and Parfums Christian Dior. Her appointment was effective 1 January 2000. Ms Mak replaces Gary Dunwell who assumes the role of Country Manager of Singapore. "It is with great enthusiasm that these announcements are made.
