NEW CHAIRMAN AND CEO APPOINTMENTS AT FRANKLINS, AUSTRALIA

26th November 1998 - Dairy Farm International Holdings Limited, London-listed owner of Franklins, announced today that Ian Cornell will be joining the Group on 1st January 1999 as Chief Executive Officer of Franklins, Australia. He will also be a member of the Dairy Farm Management Services Board and a member of the Dairy Farm Senior Management Team. Mr Cornell is currently chief general manager supermarkets of Woolworths Ltd, Australia.

Dairy Farm also announced that Don Fraser will be appointed Chairman of Franklins Limited upon the retirement of Bob Sutton as Chairman. Bob Sutton will, however, remain on the Franklins Board. Don Fraser will continue in his Dairy Farm Management Services role as Regional Director, Australasia. His appointment as Franklins' Chairman is also effective from 1st January 1999.

Making the announcement, Dairy Farm Group Chief Executive, Ron Floto, said "The appointment of Ian Cornell to the leadership of Franklins demonstrates Dairy Farm's commitment to the company. Ian Cornell's experience and accomplishments in Australian supermarketing make him the ideal leader to take Franklins to the next level."

Mr Floto said, "Don Fraser, who becomes Franklins' Chairman, has done a superb job lifting the company out of the mire and setting it well on the path towards recovery by assembling a first rate management team. Don will now be able to concentrate on his regional role for the Group."

Ian Cornell, 44, Foodweek's "Chainstore Retailer of the Year" in 1996 and 1997, has spent the last 22 years in the supermarket industry during which he rose through the ranks of the Safeway division of Woolworths from trainee manager, store management and buying, to state merchandising manager for both New South Wales and later for Victoria. In January 1994 he was appointed general manager, supermarkets, Queensland, until 1997 when he was appointed chief general manager supermarkets.

Franklins is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dairy Farm International Holdings Limited and comprises 265 Franklins outlets with sales totalling A$4 billion. Franklins is currently refurbishing and expanding its network. The "Franklins Fresh" format now represents 55% of total sales.

Dairy Farm is an international retailing and wholesaling group focused on the Asia-Pacific Region. At 30th June 1998, Dairy Farm operated some 1,350 outlets, principally supermarkets, convenience stores and drugstores, and employed some 44,600 people. In 1997, Dairy Farm reported sales of US$6,900 million. The Group also owns a 50% interest in Maxim's Caterers Limited, Hong Kong's largest restaurant and catering company with some 300 outlets in Hong Kong and Mainland China; and a 32% effective interest in the Jakarta-listed supermarket company, PT Hero Supermarket, which has some 70 outlets in Indonesia.
