Electric Vehicle Powered by GP Batteries Captured Championship in U.S.

Singapore, 9 June 1999 - Mainboard-listed GP Batteries International Limited ("GP Batteries"), a leader in Asia in the development of batteries for Electric Vehicles ("EV"), announces that a Solectria Force electric sedan powered by GP Batteries' Nickel Metal Hydride ("NiMH") batteries captured the first place overall in the 11th Northeast Sustainable Energy Association's American Tour de Sol ("NESEA Tour") Electric Vehicle Championship. This week-long race started from Waterbury, Connecticut, travelled through West Massachusetts and concluded in scenic Lake George, New York on 29 May 1999.

The winning car powered by 150 cells of 90Ah GP NiMH Battery demonstrated a driving range of 142 miles (227 km) on one charge and gained recognition for its efficiency, reliability, acceleration, handling and consumer acceptability. There were approximately 50 vehicles, including EVs manufactured by Ford, DaimlerChrysler and Toyota entered in the week-long NESEA Tour.

At the same race, an electric scooter entered by Green Fuel Resources of Singapore captured the record of 76 miles (122 km) for the longest ride on one charge. The scooter was also powered by GP's NiMH batteries.
