Annual Report 2023
Notes to the Consolidated Financial Statements For the year ended 31 December 2023 102 CHINA MERCHANTS PORT HOLDINGS COMPANY LIMITED 2. MATERIAL ACCOUNTING POLICY INFORMATION (CONTINUED) 2.2 Consolidation (continued) (ii) Associates and joint ventures (continued) The Group discontinues the use of the equity method from the date when the investment ceases to be an associate or a joint venture, or when the investment is classified as held for sale. When the Group retain an interest of the former associate or joint venture and the retained interest is a financial asset within the scope of HKFRS 9, the Group measures the retained interest at fair value at that date and the fair value is regarded as its fair value on initial recognition. The difference between the previous carrying amount of the associate or joint venture attributable to the retained interest and its fair value is included in the determination of the gain or loss on disposal of the associate or joint venture. In addition, the Group accounts for all amounts previously recognised in other comprehensive income in relation to that associate or joint venture on the same basis as would be required if that associate or joint venture had directly disposed of the related assets or liabilities. Therefore, if a gain or loss previously recognised in other comprehensive income by that associate or joint venture would be reclassified to the consolidated statement of profit or loss on the disposal of the related assets or liabilities, the Group reclassifies the gain or loss from equity to profit or loss (as a reclassification adjustment) upon disposal/partial disposal of the relevant associate or joint venture. If the ownership interest in an associate or a joint venture is reduced but the Group continues to use the equity method, the difference between the carrying amount of the underlying assets and liabilities attributable to the interests disposed of and the consideration received, if any, is credited or charged to the profit or loss as gain/loss on disposal of interest in associates and/or joint ventures. In addition, the proportionate share of the amounts relating to that reduction in ownership interest previously recognised in other comprehensive income is reclassified to profit or loss if that gain or loss would be reclassified to profit or loss on the disposal of the related assets or liabilities. Acquisition of additional interests in associates or joint ventures When the Group increases its ownership interest in an associate or a joint venture but the Group continues to use the equity method, goodwill is recognised at acquisition date if there is excess of the consideration paid over the share of carrying amount of net assets attributable to the additional interests in associates or joint ventures acquired. Any excess of share of carrying amount of net assets attributable to the additional interests in associates or joint ventures acquired over the consideration paid are recognised in the profit or loss in the period in which the additional interest are acquired. 2.3 Segment reporting Operating segments are reported in a manner consistent with the internal reporting provided to the chief operating decision-maker (“CODM”). The CODM, who is responsible for allocating resources and assessing performance of the operating segments, has been identified as the key management team of the Company that makes strategic decisions.
