Beijing, China - September 20, 2000 - It was a fresh autumn afternoon when the new board of directors of Founder Holdings Limited (SEHK: 418) stroke their posts before guests, representing various publics, at Founder Holdings New Century Development Conference held today in Beijing Diao-Yu-Tai VIP Guesthouse. Under the catchword of making for greater brilliance, setting sail for world markets, they also announced their across-the-board business strategic planning.
On behalf of Prof. Wang Xuan, Chairman of the Founder Holdings BOD, Prof. Wei Xin delivered a topic speech on the latest business scheme of Founder Holdings. He emphasized that there was mighty, efficient and united teamwork within the management of Founder Holdings and that Founder had now become a highly modernised IT company. Founder Holdings is to further integrate and optimise its traditional strengths in technology, marketing and servicing, he said. With Founder Electronics, Founder Order, EC-Founder, Founder Japan and Founder Overseas forming five business kernels for Founder Holdings, Founder is now prepared to expand further on the domestic China market and - at the same time - to take the lead on international markets.
Over the past one year, the public have been uttering pretty much veiled word about Founder's "silence" through several times' reorganising. Now as it entered the 2nd half of the year 2000, Founder started to reveal itself now and then to the public, which today culminated in this New Century Development Conference. Many personalities were found present at the Conference, including heads from many China central ministries as well as Beijing municipal and Haidian-district authorities, Founder's clients at home and abroad, major reporters from HK as well as the PRC.
Some people once conceived that market for Founder Electronics (one of Founder's core businesses), which had started up by servicing the newspaper industry, might have become saturated and that Founder Electronics could be losing its competitive advantage in media industries. However, according to people at Founder Electronics themselves, it is clear misunderstanding of Founder Electronics and its business scope. President Xiao Jian Guo, newly appointed to the said position, explained why. On one hand, Internet is bound to have effect on all traditional media industries, bringing about both challenges and opportunities, exerting higher technological demand on them than ever before. On the other hand, Founder - furnished with key technologies needed by media industries and years of experience servicing them - stands at a definite advantage. As an example, President Xiao explained how Founder's trans-platform information creation-management-distribution integrated solutions paralleled with the current developmental trend of the media industries. He said that it was no exaggeration to state that Founder Electronics is now facing greater developing space and opportunities and that Founder Electronics strives to become an Internet age media industry total solutions provider.
Footed in traditional businesses and sustaining on Internet business for future expansion is one of Founder's development strategies. EC-Founder, a newly established subsidiary by Founder Holdings, has clearly defined itself to be an "E-Commerce Enabler". Also based on Founder's technological advantage, EC-Founder aims to build up its clientele in areas, such as Internet technologies, e-commerce consulting, information-service providing as well as ad-targeting. EC-Founder's job references include Asia's biggest online jewelry-dealing website (www.jubonet.com), a PC online servicing system undertaken in Korea, and "E-Town", a mega-project already under way in cooperation with China's Dong Guan County. All above are living examples how EC-Founder has enough strength in further enabling China's EC development. Although it is - for Founder - still a new frontier, where a lot of exploration and experimentation is needed, yet Founder has the determination to re-gain its championship position from the ongoing Internet revolution, said Mr Ricky Lee, President of EC-Founder Co, Ltd.
A third core business under Founder Holdings is Founder Order. Ever since Founder's acquisition of this system integration business, Founder Holdings' marketing and technological advantages in providing industrial system integration solutions have been fortified. Mr Eric Luo, Chairman of Founder Order Computer System Co, Ltd made detailed presentation to visitors as to what remarkable strengths Founder Order had in industries like banking, insurance, securities and taxation, and especially in the banking and finance industry. Similar to Founder Electronics and with their industrial clients turning in the direction of Internet, Founder Order recently put forward a "e-integration" development strategy, defining itself as a leading Internet age system integration solutions provider.
Setting sail for world markets is part of this Conference's catchword. Mr Alan Cheung, President of Founder Holdings Limited, is full of confidence about Founder's internationalisation. In Japan, through the operation of Founder (Japan) Inc., Founder is probably the best-operating China IT company which has a foot in Japan's media industry. Started with a staff of two, Founder (Japan) Inc. now has a staff of more than100. Its operation has developed from nil to what becomes "the beauty in the eyes of the beholders", that is, investing firms. Softbank Financial Corporation, a world-renowned venture capital investor, has just injected 1.064 billion Japanese yens in Founder Holdings. They have further promised to help Peking University Founder Group and its associates / subsidiaries promote products on the Japanese market as well as establish relations with non-competing enterprises, using Softbank's influence in Japan and its investing and managing advantages. In Malaysia, through the operation of PUC Founder (MSC) Sdn. Bhd., Founder is now ready for PUC Founder (MSC)'s listing on Malaysia's "NASDAQ", MESDAQ. As had been planned by Founder Holdings' BOD, Founder Holding's internationalisation started from its Hong Kong headquarters, which was then further expanded to Malaysia, Taiwan and North America. On one hand, Founder's strengths in software development and system integration were therefore promoted alongside. On the other hand, as business operation by each overseas subsidiary takes on its local features, Founder Holdings' has acquired great business diversity and has - more importantly - been able to keep up closely with the development steps of Internet worldwide.
In view of the fact that many application areas in the PRC are still dominated by foreign-originated software, Founder now has the ambition both to fight back foreign invaders on the PRC market and to blaze its trial on ex-PRC markets with Founder's self-developed technologies and applications.
Challenges coexist with opportunities. Fierce market competition has awakened the BOD of Founder Holdings to the necessity to strengthen and standardise its current operation. Founder today has taken on a new look inside and out. It is just reasonable to say that Founder has already promoted itself on a higher level.
