Shui On Awarded ISO 14001 Certification
(Hong Kong, 6 March 2000) Shui On Building Contractors Limited and Shui On Construction Company Limited were both awarded ISO 14001 certification by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency on 22 December 1999. The certification of ISO 14001 not only testifies to Shui On's long term commitment to environmental protection, but also recognizes that the environmental management system of Shui On fully meets international standards and requirements.
"It has always been Shui On's priority to continuously upgrade our standard of health, safety and environmental management at our workplace. We aim to reduce the number of industrial accidents to a minimum and provide a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and workers, and try our best to minimize pollution and waste arising from our operations," said Mr Lawrence Choi, Managing Director of Shui On Construction and Materials Limited.
Shui On has started various programs to improve safety and environment at work before the implementation of ISO 14001. Besides reviewing work procedures and methods, frequent training and promotions are conducted to raise employees' awareness of environmental issues. The Health Safety and Environment Target Seminar held annually sets forth the Group's health, safety and environment targets and action plans for each coming year for implementation by all in the company. The certification of ISO 14001 further endorses Shui On's policy, goals, organization structure and procedures for making the most effective use of resources, reducing waste and controlling pollution for the betterment of the environment.
Shui On Building Contractors Limited (SOBC) and Shui On Construction Company Limited (SOC) are wholly owned subsidiaries of the publicly listed Shui On Construction and Materials Limited. SOBC is the first ISO 9002 certified construction company in Hong Kong. While SOBC and SOC are respectively on the NW2 and NW1 lists of building contractors of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, both companies are also registered building contractors of the Buildings Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government specialising in residential, commercial and institutional construction projects and hold Group "C" licences for public building works of unlimited value.
