SHUI ON GROUP CHAIRMAN VINCENT H.S. LO NAMED
BUSINESSMAN OF THE YEAR 2001

(HONG KONG, 6th December 2001) - The DHL/South China Morning Post Hong Kong Business Awards judging committee today named Mr Vincent H.S. Lo, Chairman of Shui On Group, Businessman of the Year 2001.

According to the judging committee, Mr Lo is an example of a highly motivated and visionary manager. Under his leadership, Shui On entered into the Mainland market in the 80's, making the Group one of the first Hong Kong companies to do so. Mr Lo also serves on a number of community bodies, including serving as a member of the Ninth National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of the Business and Professionals Federation of Hong Kong, and Chairman of the Council of The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology.

"This award is a tribute to all the staff of Shui On and our corporate values rather than to myself personally," said Mr Lo. "In my mind, Shui On has done reasonably well in the past year, considering the adverse local market conditions, on two important and strategic tasks. The first is the Shanghai Xintiandi development, which has created quite a sensation and attracted a great deal of publicity, not only in Shanghai and Hong Kong but also from all corners of the world since its partial opening in the beginning of this year. And in the past months, we have had the honour of receiving heads of states, senior government officials and international business leaders at Xintiandi."

The second, Mr Lo added, is the establishment of the "Shui On 30" Plan, thus named because this year is Shui On's 30th Anniversary. The plan aims to capitalise on the Chinese Mainland's rapidly developing market in the real estate and construction materials businesses while maintaining Shui On's leadership in the Hong Kong market. "With strong commitment of all Shui On people, the implementation of the plan is progressing well."

The Hong Kong Business Awards were established by DHL International (Hong Kong) Ltd and the South China Morning Post in 1990. This year's judging panel was chaired by Dr Lawrence Wong, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and included representatives from DHL International (Hong Kong) Limited, The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, South China Morning Post, The Hong Kong Junior Chamber, The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Limited, The Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation as well as last year's winners Mr Patrick Wang of Johnson Electric Holdings Ltd, Mr John Chan of The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd, Mr John Chu of Centro Digital Entreprises Ltd, Mr Danny Lau of Li & Fung (Trading) Ltd, Mr Merle Hinrichs of Global Sources and Mr Mark Duff of BOOM.COM.
