Shui On Wins Nine Awards in the
"Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme 2003"

(Hong Kong, 23 April 2004) Shui On Building Contractors Limited (SOBC) and Shui On Construction Limited (SOC), both subsidiaries of Shui On Construction and Materials Limited (SOCAM; stock code: 0983), have recently won various awards in the "Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme 2003". It is the sixth time the companies have received awards in this scheme. Winning projects include Castle Peak Hospital Redevelopment Phase II Stage 2 and Welfare Complex at Lai King Headland under the Public Works category; Shatin Area 2B, Pak Tin Estate Phases 3 & 6 and District Term Contract for Tuen Mun East District under the Non-Public Works category. Some of these projects have also received Gold, Bronze and Merit Awards in the Site Cleanliness & Tidiness Grand Award (see attachment for details). The "Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme" was established by the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau in 1995 to recognise contractors for their considerate attitude towards the public and the neighbours in carrying out works, outstanding site safety and environmental performance, and good site management. The assessment is carried out jointly by representatives from the organiser and project architects, who inspect all participating construction sites periodically and assess the overall site management, safety, law compliance and environmental measures.

Shui On endeavours to provide a healthy, safe and pleasant environment to site staff and the community by constantly reviewing its work procedures and methods. The company also conducts frequent training and promotions to raise workers' awareness of occupational health, safety and environment issues. Through the concerted efforts of its management, site staff, subcontractors and their workers, site safety and environmental performance has shown remarkable improvement.

SOCAM, a member of the Shui On Group, was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1997 and is engaged in construction, construction materials and property development in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. Apart from SOCAM, the Shui On Group has non-listed property businesses with investments in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and New York.
