Swire Properties Continues to Attract Top Technology Tenants
Level 3 Communications Builds Colocation Space in Island East

Swire Properties today (Thursday, 16 December) announced that US-based communications and information services company Level 3 Communications has signed a lease to build a state-of-the-art colocation facility in its Warwick House property, TaiKoo Place in Island East.

Mr Stephan Spurr, Director & General Manager of Swire Properties, said: "We are very pleased that Level 3 has chosen Island East as the location for its International Gateway facilities in Hong Kong. Level 3's commitment proves that Island East is becoming more popular as a location for technology leaders to base their operations."

Strategically located at the MTR interchange at Quarry Bay, Island East is an IT-ready hub. While the newer buildings in Island East such as Lincoln House offer advanced and comprehensive technical infrastructures including raised flooring, dual feed Cat. 5 and fiber optic cabling, our first generation of industrial style buildings such as Warwick House are receiving a new lease on life as telecommunications or IT facilities management centres. The sizeable floorplate, high ceilings and heavy floor loading of these buildings make them ideally suited as techno centres for the housing of equipment of telecoms and e-commerce companies and add significantly to our distinct community.

"We now have a fine mix of top high-tech, IT, datacom and telecom tenants in Island East. In Cityplaza alone, more than 35% of our office tenants, in terms of total lettable floor area, are involved in information technology - Nokia, Microsoft, Northern Telecom, Compaq, Reuters, Hewlett-Packard, NEC and Gateway to name a few. In TaiKoo Place the list is equally impressive. Such tenants include IBM, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Cable & Wireless HKT, Smartone and Sybase," added Mr Spurr.

Chief Executive Officer of Level 3 Asian operations, Mr Steve Liddell, said that Island East was selected due to its close proximity to Hong Kong's growing Internet community and because it met the stringent corporate standards required for a state-of-the-art colocation facility.

"Providing quality colocation space is a key part of Level 3's international strategy and we are currently building more colocation space globally than any other communications company," says Mr Liddell.
